Alexa Littleton began karate just a couple of months before her 10th birthday and she turned 15 this year. She studies with Shihan Michael Bernardo in London, Ontario. He is her mentor, her coach and one of her most important role models. He is a multiple World and NASKA Champion.
Alexa was crazy for karate right from the begining, often training 7 days a week prior to Nationals or Worlds. Her favourite event is point sparring, next are the weapons and continuous sparring.
At the age of 11, as a purple belt, Alexa went to her first World championships in Ireland in 2003. She came home with 2 individual Gold medals and 1 Team Gold medal. She has qualified and competed in four World Championships and will be heading to Germany in August for her fifth.
Alexa competes regularly on the National Martial Arts Circuit and has participated in many NASKA events. She often travels with her weapons partner and friend, Mark Santoro. Alexa and Mark, proud WKA Team Canada Members, won Gold in Spain in Team weapons.
Her role models and influences in Martial Arts are Tammy Bernardo, Connie Baker, Michael Palitti, Laura Schumacher, Andy Young and Claire Cocozza. Her karate posse and those who push her to achieve excellence in the martial arts, include, Amanda Bently-DeSousa, Jerrica Mitchell, Imran Jaffer, Heather Grandy, Megan Mackenzie, Michael Daniluk and Jessica Noden.
Her advice to other young martial artists; work hard, practice, fight smart, listen and have fun.
Congratulations and good luck in Germany!
